MC for dance and music stages programme is Gary McCormick
ALSO ON THE PARK
| Throughout the day |
- Watch out for Alan McKay – the Bubbleman
- as he cruises the various venues with his bubbles
- The Sculpture Competition will kick off
at 8.00am and finish at 4.45pm. This will include
well known sculptors as well as emerging new talent.
Davey McGhie will judge the competition and the
winners will be announced on the main stage at
5.45pm
- There will be official badged photographers from
the Kapiti Camera Club to record the event
- Art and craft, displays and food stalls
will be located around the park
- The Wellington Hockey Association will be
offering a full day programme comprising some
Master’s games, some practise sessions and free turf
for people to “have a go”
- The Gear Homestead Woolshed Potters – Raku
Firing
The potters will have on site their “Raku Drum Kiln”
and will be offering the public the opportunity to
select and buy a piece of pottery which they can
decorate themselves and have fired on the day. The
pots are fired to approximately 1000 degrees Celsius
and are then removed from the kiln red hot and put
on sawdust and shredded paper which smokes the pot
for the final effects. This is a very exciting
process. Each firing will take approximately 40
minutes so you should be able to take your piece
away with you on the day.

MANA COLLEGE MARAE
| Throughout the day |
Visit the “Ewe to you” activity in the Mana College Marae. See groups
from around the region spin and knit raw fleece into a garment on the day. Try
your hand at up to the minute versions of old country crafts – spinning, weaving
and felting.

"Didge ya 'ear that?!" A free interactive workshop with Adam Hill from
Blacktown, Australia, combining music and visual art. Workshop participants
listen to distinct rhythmic patterns of the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) and or song, and
translate these sounds onto paper. |

Kayaking will be available with the TS Taupo Sea Cadets for potential recruits
(approx 11 years old) for their group

PATAKA MUSEUM & ART GALLERY

In the Bottle Creek Gallery an exhibition of artwork from LoveArt New Zealand. www.loveart.co.nz is an online gallery exhibiting the works of 17 New Zealand
artists mainly from the Kapiti and Wellington area. Come and see the artists at
work. |
MANA COLLEGE GYMNASIUM

It will be all action again this year at the Festival of the Elements kids’
activity “KAPI-MANA NEWS ART ACTION!”
Kapi-Mana News is sponsoring what will be a wonderful experience for
Porirua’s tamariki!
Art Action! Workshops will inspire children to participate actively. Whether
creating their own work of art or attempting the rock climbing wall, those under
13 will have a unique opportunity to have fun learning new skills from the
experts for – free!

MANA COLLEGE TENNIS COURTS

Get off the earth and into the air…
The inaugural Festival of the Elements 3 on 3 Basketball Jam will take
place on the Mana Outdoor courts. The basketball and phat tunes will start at
approx 11.00am and should run until 3.00pm. Terry Stallworth, former coach of
the Porirua second division team and current Hoop Club Coach, will be running
the show and giving out all the prizes at the end of the day.
Come as a team of three, or turn up and join a team. The competition will be
for Juniors (11 – 12 year olds), College (13 – 18 year olds) and open and is
completely free

Urbanside Zone
Over 30 years of hip hop culture including art, dance and music. Choice
Graffiti Art
Porirua and Wellington graf artists will be demoing graffiti art and in the
process educating the taggers on the positives of the art. Have a look and feel
free to ask them any questions about graf art. Peace out
Breakdancing
B-boys and B-girls jamming the breakdancing thang to a mash of hip hop and funk
tunes.

All other activities within the College Marae and the Mana College Gymnasium
