2008 Festival Headliners and Attractions
WELLINGTON INTERNATIONAL UKULELE ORCHESTRA
 

A smash hit, with glowing reviews where-ever they have performed.   The WIUO has Played Favourites on Kim Hill, taught Campbell Live’s Jaquie Brown how to play the uke, and attracted 73 ukulele enthusiasts to a mass uke-in on the waterfront for the Wellington Fringe Festival Fricnic.

Now they are coming to the Festival of the Elements bringing hit songs from across the musical spectrum including The White Stripes, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, Leonard Cohen, The Muttonbirds, Split Enz, Pixie Williams, DD Smash and more.

They are fantastic! The orchestra will certainly uphold the Festival reputation of terrific producing headline acts.”  - Festival Chairman Bob Cater.

GARY'S BACK!

What would the Festival of the Elements be without him!
Kiwi media celebrity Gary McCormick is returns to MC on the main stage.
McCormick grew up in Porirua, and says it’s a great place to be on Waitangi Day!

PAIHERETIA APERAHAMA 
 

At only 11 years of age, Paiheretia "Maori Jackson" was the youngest semi-finalist
through Maorioke last year. You may have seen him on Campbell Live with his talented
whanau. He’ll be performing a selection of Jackson 5 songs.
A great new talent on the rise!

ADAM HILL

 


Bringing the didgeridoo from Australia – an accomplished performer of Yidaki (Didgeridoo),
with training from cultural tutors and custodians of the instrument, the Yolngu of North East
Arnhem Land. Adam comes to the Festival as a result of the Sister City relationship
between Porirua and Blacktown in New South Wales.

MARC SPIJKERBOSCH



New Zealand’s foremost trompe l’oeil (trick of the eye) muralists. Marc is a special guest
at the Festival’s KAPI-MANA ART ACTION! Programme. He’ll be painting a mural
throughout the day, assisted by Mana College students.

This is his last stop before going onto compete in a global mural paint-off!

JINETERO MC

Jinetero MC is Yonier Cuevas Vega, a Cuban Reggaeton Artist and a member of
Wellington’s afro-fusion/ hip hop band, Olmecha Supreme.
He cuts to the edge of Reggaeton - a unique sound straight from the streets of Latin American,
fusing salsa and hip hop rhythms with the Jamaican influences of reggae and dancehall.

BASKETBALL COMPETITON

The inaugural Festival of the Elements 3 on 3 basketball jam will take place on the Mana
Outdoor court from 11.00am through to around 3.00pm. Terry Stallworth, former coach
of the Porirua second division team and current Hoop Club Coach, will be
running the show and giving out all the prizes at the end of the day.

Come as a team of three, or turn up and join a team. The competition will be for
Juniors (11 – 12 year olds), College (13 – 18 year olds) and open.
